6k Walk / Run to support RehabCare in Navan

08/07/2015 6k Walk / Run to support RehabCare in Navan

The RehabCare Navan / 1-2-1 Fitness Beat the Bulge 6k Run/Walk takes place on Saturday, 1st August with the help of Darrel Smith of 1-2-1 Fitness, Mullaghboy Industrial Estate. The event is organised by Darrel as the climax of the Beat the Bulge programme that he has been running over the past eight weeks. The run / walk takes place at 10am with registration from 9am at 1-2-1 Fitness. All are encouraged to come along and run, walk or crawl the route and enjoy the morning. The event is open to everybody.

Darrel Smith explains that the Beat the Bulge participants are set a target at the beginning of the programme of completing a 6k run/walk at the end of the eight weeks. This year he has teamed up with RehabCare Navan resource centre to encourage participants to use the opportunity of the event to fundraise for a good cause and bring their friends and family along to enjoy the morning. Darrel has developed a great relationship with some of the service users in RehabCare through their use of 1-2-1 fitness for their Boxercise program which is part of a health lifestyles strategy. The route of the 6k will begin at 1-2-1 fitness in Mullaghboy Industrial Estate, Navan and covers a course that takes in the Old Athboy Road, the Commons Road and Clogherboy.

Every year across Ireland, Rehab supports some 8,000 children and adults with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities, people with mental health difficulties, people with autism and people with an acquired brain injury. Rehab enables them to realise their dreams, learn skills, access job opportunities and strive towards living more independent lives. Proceeds raised from the 6k help fund RehabCare in Navan resource centre, which provides services to 65 people with physical and intellectual disabilities from across Meath. They support them through a range of activities, such as personal and social development, independent living skills, computer skills training, numeracy and literacy training, cookery, arts and crafts, photography, community integration, part-time work, music and sport. Funds raised from the run will go towards new activities, with further plans of moving the services into Navan town centre, increasing opportunities for full participation in community life.

Kieran O’Sullivan, RehabCare Navan Community Service Manager says that funds raised from the 6k  run / walk event will go directly towards developing the services with new activities and further plans of moving the services into Navan town centre increasing opportunities for full participation in community life. RehabCare would encourage participants to use the RehabCare sponsorship cards to raise even more much needed funds.

RehabCare appreciate all of the support of everyone taking part in the event. You’re guaranteed to have a great time at the RehabCare / 1-2-1 Fitness 6k walk /Run and you’ll be supporting a very good local cause. So, come on everybody and join in!

Kieran would like to thank Darrel and everyone at 1-2-1 fitness for their support to RehabCare.

Entry is only €5 and can be paid for on the morning. There will be refreshments at 1-2-1 fitness in Mullaghboy afterwards. Sponsorship cards are available from RehabCare or 1-2-1 Fitness, both in Mullaghboy Industrial Estate or contact details below.
