An Olympic-sized Welcome for Cian O’Connor at RehabCare Tullamore

22/01/2013 An Olympic-sized Welcome for Cian O’Connor at RehabCare Tullamore

Olympic bronze medalist, Cian O’Connor was given a rousing welcome when he visited the RehabCare resource centre in The Tanyard, Tullamore yesterday. Cian took time out from his busy schedule to meet with clients and staff at the centre, pose for photographs, sign autographs and enjoy a cup of tea. Everyone at the centre was delighted to meet Ireland’s show-jumping hero who topped off his Olympic medal-winning year with victory as a member of the Irish Nations Cup team at the Dublin Horse Show 2012.

Cian was invited to visit to RehabCare by Gary McCabe from Clara who attends the resource centre. A keen show-jumping fan, Gary is also an international bronze medal-winning athlete, having won his medal in the Special Olympic World Games 2011 as a member of the Irish basketball team. Speaking at the event, Gary said, “I’m so excited and happy that Cian could visit our centre today. It‘s a great honour to have him here. He‘s such a legend!”

Marie Hensey, Community Services Manager, RehabCare in Carlow, said, ‘We’re thrilled to welcome Cian O’Connor to our resource centre. We all took great delight in cheering Cian on to Olympic medal-winning glory at London 2012. Despite his hectic schedule, Cian has made the time to come and visit us and to chat with the 56 people who attend the centre here in Tanyard. There was such excitement - it’s not every day that you get to meet a real sporting hero!”
