29/04/2015 Cavan Businesses Open Their Doors to RehabCare

Service user’s from the RehabCare Resource Centre on the Cootehill Road in Cavan joined the Irish Association of Supported Employment’s recent Job Shadow Day (22nd April) initiative and became involved in shadowing workers from different organisations to get a taste of working in the professional workplace.

Bríd Dowd, Doris Gibson and Laura Fanin went to Farnham National School. Doris said, “I would like to be an Special Needs Assistant (SNA). This experience has really encouraged me.” Barry Armstrong, Patrick Keogh, Martin Campbell and Kevin Delaney took to the airways with Shannonside Radio. Kevin said, “I always wanted to see behind the scenes in a radio station, I enjoyed it.”  Gary Kerrigan, MaryAnna McGovern and Mary Tackney also got an insight into what it takes to makes a radio programme when they spent time job shadowing staff in Cavan Community Radio.

Cavan Guards showed Thomas Leddy and Orla Ruddy how they keep the law in Cavan. Orla said, “I had a great day. I would like to get a job in the future. I had fun sitting on the judges chair and seeing the cells. I wouldn’t like to spend a night there though!”

Other businesses that opened their doors for Job Shadow Day included Bally Agricultural College (host to Michael Galligan), Braisserie Restaurant (host to Hugh Morris), Cavan Community Enterprise (host to Louise Heaslip), Klass Cleaners (host to Bridget Cullivan) and Cavan Library
(host to Teresa Brady).

In partnership with the HSE, RehabCare provides a wide range of high-quality person-centred services at its resource centre Drumalee in Cavan, the service offers programmes such as community   integration, personal development, independent living skills and social and leisure activities and sports participation. Part-time paid work, work experience projects and world of work training programmes are also provided for over sixty people.
