What's On?

This weekend (Aug 24th and 25th), head to Sligo to help raise money for people with disabilities in Sligo at the RehabCare Celebrity Soccer match. An action packed weekend of Fun, Football and Fundraising is promised!

Celebrity Teams...

UK Soapstars: Leading the UK team, which play under the Once Upon A Smile charity, are patrons Danny Milller and Daniel Jillings. Best known for his role as Arron in Emmerdale, the Danny (22) has won a host of awards for his acting work, including Best Actor at the 2012 British Soap Awards, three Inside Soap Awards, and two TV Quick & TV Choice Awards in 2010 and a TV Times Award in 2010. Daniel Jillings is also a co-founder of the charity and he has played a number of roles in Doctors, Coronation Street and Casualty. Also playing are Tony Discipline (Tyler in Eastenders), Thomas Law (played Peter Beale in  Eastenders), Danny Young (Coronation Street and Dancing on Ice), Anthony Quinlan (Hollyoaks), (Harry Potter), Derry Mensah and Charlie Healy from The Risk (X-factor 2011), Danny Tennant (Hollyoaks and Emmerdale), Dean Smith, Jack McMullen, Naveed Choudhry, Reece Douglas and Will Rush from Waterloo Road and Ryan Luldoon (Shameless and Waterloo Road).


RehabCare Allstar Selection: Paul Walsh, lead singer with Royseven and Stephen Byrne, presenter, RTÉ’s Two Tube and reporter on The Voice of Ireland have booked their places on the RehabCare All-stars team. Irish soap stars from Fair City are also gearing up to take on their UK counterparts.  Dave O’Sullivan (Decco), Ryan Andrews (Sean) and Sean Doyle (Callum) are ready for the battle of the soap stars! They’ll be joined by Alan Cawley (Former League of Ireland player and pundit on RTÉ’s MNS), Conor O’Grady (Former captain of Sligo Rovers) ,Damien Mc Callion, Gary Rooney, Keith Lynch and Keith Nibbs from the Sligo Leitrim & District League) and local Gardaí James Connelly and Noel O Donnell. The team will be managed by Noel M Kennedy with John Loftus taking on the role of assistant manager.

The UK soapstars will sample the hospitality and food in Waves Restaurant

Your chance to meet and greet your soap heroes in The Velvet Rooms
Guest DJ London-born DJ Marvyn Williams
Proceeds from entry (€15) to meet the soapstars in the Westwing goes to RehabCare in Sligo

Sunday 25th Aug

Celebrity Soccer Match
UK Soapstars v’s RehabCare Allstars (kick off 1.30pm)
McSharry Park, Cranmore Road. Gates open at 12.45pm.
iRadio will be broadcasting live updates with lots of giveaways
MC Scruffy Duffy will have lots of giveaways
Mexican wave competition and a football anthem competition
Half-time Soapstar Soccer Star Cross Bar Competition (His and Her’s prize package including two tickets to the Gala Night)
Welcome by Cllr Marcella McGarry, Mayor of Sligo and Teresa McCabe, President of the FAI Junior Soccer League
Presentation of cup to winning team
Tickets: €10 per adult and €5 for U16’s (must be supervised). Last remaining family tickets (2a & 2c) are available for €25. Match tickets are on sale in RehabCare Sligo (086 0404331), The Sligo Weekender, Se7en in Quayside shopping centre, Jako Sports, Centra Maugharboy, Centra Cartron and Tighes Newsagents, Ballymote and Supervalu Tubbercurry and will also be on sale at the gate on the day.


Soapstar Soccer Star Cross Bar Challenge

Five couples will be challenged to test their knowledge of the soaps and their soccer skills at half time. The ladies have to correctly answer questions on soaps to give their partner the chance to take a shot and hit the crossbar from a fixed point. To qualify just enter the competition on the following Facebook pages of The Velvet Rooms, The Sligo Weekender, Rehab25, and Jako Sports.
