HOPS Go 5K for My1000 Hours Challenge

01/04/2015 HOPS Go 5K for My1000 Hours Challenge

On Saturday March 7th, RehabCare HOPS took on the challenge of participating in the My1000 Hours 5K in the Phoenix Park.  The focus of My1000 Hours was to put mental health on the mainstream agenda, and to generate awareness for a topic that can often be overlooked.  Service users, volunteers and staff from HOPS teamed up to prepare for walk and completed the challenge together. Everyone found participating in the 5K to be an inspiring experience and they hope to participate in similar events in the future.

Francie Ducie was just one of the people who uses HOPS service on Pearse Street in Dublin to take part in the 5K. "The walk/run was a great experience for me and I enjoyed it very much. I am looking forward to doing it again. There were thousands of people there supporting a very good cause. It was very positive for people’s mental health and it shows that when people join together, we can help together."

First-timer Michael Sharkey siad, "It was a great feeling, mentally and physically, for all of us. I thought it was a lovely experience. It was very satisfying for me, as I love to walk very regularly by myself.  I will do similar walks/runs for good causes, like mental health, in groups."
