Irish Country Meats Supports RehabCare Wexford Employment Scheme

10/11/2015 Irish Country Meats Supports RehabCare Wexford Employment Scheme

Irish Country Meats has partnered with RehabCare Wexford to support a new initiative which helps people with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities actively seek and gain employment. The scheme aims to support individuals to increase their independence and confidence so that they can have a better quality of life.  Funding from Irish Country Meats will facilitate FETAC-accredited training in areas such as Workplace Safety which helps to make service users more employable in mainstream businesses.

Sarah Kennedy, RehabCare Community Services Manager for Wexford commented, “This funding from Irish Country Meats, along with the Comprehensive Employment Strategy for People with Disabilities recently announced by the government, provides staff with a clear route for supporting service users to actively seek and gain employment. We hope to further develop and enhance our supported employment services in Wexford, as we have seen the positive impact that having a job has had on our service users. They become more independent as they earn their own money, they become more confident and they integrate better into their local community.”

Recently RehabCare service user Lee Colfer gained employment in local business Tyres 4 Less.   “I love the craic at work with Mark, Sinead and Simon,” remarked Lee. “It’s great to be getting paid every week. Mary O’Dowd (of Supported Employment) and Mary O’Neill (RehabCare) are the ones who helped me find a job and it is great working in my local community”.

Irish Country Meats General Manager John Walsh said, “As a leading employer in Co. Wexford, we are delighted to assist this scheme to support people with disabilities by helping them gain employment in the community. By gaining a FETAC-accredited qualification, they can demonstrate their diligence and ability to learn new skills. Integration into mainstream workplaces benefits both them and their colleagues and enriches the work environment for all.”

Headquartered in Camolin, Co. Wexford, Irish Country Meats is the specialist lamb processing division of Slaney Foods, a subsidiary of the Linden Food Group. Irish Country Meats has a workforce of 450 people, with facilities in Camolin, Navan and Liege in Belgium. As the leading lamb processor on the island of Ireland, Irish Country Meats collaborates with local suppliers,  farmer groups and advisory bodies to bring quality lamb products to over 30 international markets.
