It’s a ‘Close Shave’ for RehabCare in Castlerea

20/05/2013 It’s a ‘Close Shave’ for RehabCare in Castlerea

Four men who attend RehabCare in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon are facing a bit of a hairy situation! They’re joining Cllr. John Murphy and hundreds of men from throughout the county in growing beards for the Ballymoe Festival Committee’s world record-breaking attempt. It’s hoped that the event, on Saturday, 29th June, will appear in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest gathering of men with beards and moustaches in one place.

Following the record attempt, RehabCare are calling on those who prefer the clean shaven look to join them for the ‘Close Shave’ fundraising event in the Fr. Flanagan Memorial Hall on Sunday, 30th June. The event will be an opportunity for the men to gather together again, this time to pick up razors and remove the moustaches and beards to raise money for RehabCare.

Funds raised by the ‘Close Shave’ fundraising event will go towards the purchase of a new vehicle for RehabCare Castlerea’s Outreach Service, which provides an evening and weekend service to people living in rural parts of the county.

Speaking of the event, Miriam Mannion, Community Services Manager, RehabCare Castlerea, said, “There’s great excitement about the world record-breaking attempt and the subsequent ‘Close Shave’ fundraiser. We’re very grateful to Ballymoe Festival Committee, and John Griffin in particular, for the opportunity to host this great fundraiser following the record-breaking attempt. The purchase of a new vehicle will ensure that people with disabilities living in isolated areas have the opportunity to access activities and events and participate more fully in their local community.”
