Nuala Carey launches RehabCare Artists’ ‘Sunset’ Exhibition

25/11/2014 Nuala Carey launches RehabCare Artists’ ‘Sunset’ Exhibition

“Art is fantastic for capturing the passions and interests of the artist and that fleeting moment that occurs in nature and weather”, said RTÉ’s weather presenter, Nuala Carey as she opened the ‘Sunset’ art exhibition in the RehabCare resource centre on the Boghall Road in Bray today. The exhibition runs for three days until 21st November and features a collection of paintings of awe-inspiring landscapes and seascapes created by people who access the service. The artists worked with acrylic paints and there are 23 paintings in all. The exhibition is free with proceeds from the paintings sold during the exhibition going directly to RehabCare Bray for their ongoing therapeutic programme activities.

On opening the exhibition, Nuala Carey said, “It was an honour for me to open the exhibition for RehabCare as I have seen at first-hand the fantastic service that they provide here in Bray. Art has great benefits to a person’s well-being. I love what art can do for people as a form of therapy. It allows them to express themselves freely and get their personality out into the world in a very unique way.”

Nigel Phillips accesses the services provided at RehabCare in Bray and one of his paintings features in the exhibition. “I really like art. I’ve been doing it here for the last few years. We’ve been working on this exhibition for over a year now. I’m really happy with how my painting turned out and I love seeing it hanging on the wall in the exhibition.”

According to Fiona Ní Chiohhain, programme facilitator with RehabCare, there is a wealth of creativity and enthusiasm within the centre, which makes her work hugely enjoyable. “Self-expression through the medium of art is one of the core programmes that we at RehabCare offers to those who access our service here in the Southern Cross Business Park and it continues to be the most popular therapy. We are very proud of the work of each of the artists as their thoughts and emotions are evident in the creativity of their work.”

RehabCare, the health and social care division of the Rehab Group, operates a wide variety of services which reach into communities the length and breadth of Ireland. Each year, some 3,000 people avail of these services which range from resource centre activities to home support delivered in people’s homes.
