Run 6k for RehabCare

04/02/2014 Run 6k for RehabCare

With many people still on a new year’s health kick the excitement is building for RehabCare’s 6k fun run which takes place on Saturday 22nd February at 3pm to raise money for RehabCare’s resource centre on Cootehill Road. The 6k route which will begin at Meadow View Inn on the Dublin Road in Cavan will suit people of all fitness levels who can choose to walk, jog or run! All money raised will go directly towards providing health and fitness programmes for the people with disabilities who use RehabCare’s services in Cavan. Participants are encouraged to run in fancy dress and face paints!

The people who use RehabCare’s services, along with staff, are really looking forward to the fun family event and are encouraging people to sign up and enjoy the health, fitness and fun elements of the day. All proceeds will go towards the healthy lifestyles programme in the resource centre in Cavan. A special thanks must go to Peter Walsh who has been training both staff and those who attend the service with the healthy lifestyle programme. With Peter’s encouragement, there will be a large contingent from RehabCare donning their runners on the day!

In partnership with the Health Service Executive, RehabCare provides a wide range of high-quality person-centred services. The resource centre at Drumalee in Cavan offers social integration, community inclusion activities, personal development, independent living skills, sport and leisure activities, part-time paid work and work experience projects to the 63 adults who attend the centre.  The service also offers supported accommodation for seven people in Cavan at present with a further 21 adults attending the RehabCare resource centre in Bailieboro.

Benny Reilly’s son Paul has been attending the Cavan service for almost 15 years. Benny said, “Paul currently works part-time in Kiernans Filling Station on the Dublin Road - a job that was secured as part of the supported work programme operated within the centre. Paul recently participated in the operation transformation programme   within the centre which reduced his weight by a significant amount. Paul continues with this programme with ongoing support from the healthy lifestyle activities and diet.”

Participants can register at Meadow View Inn on Friday 21st Feb from 6pm-9pm and on Saturday 22nd Feb from 12 - 2.30pm. Entry fee is €5 for U16, €10 for adult and €20 for family. For more information call Sinead Mulligan on 049 4331161 or email
