16/01/2015 Sign up for Fitzer’s 5k Run!

With many people still on a new year’s health kick the excitement is building for the annual Fitzer’s 5k Run which takes place on Saturday 21st February at 11am to raise money for the Maria Goretti Children’s Respite and RehabCare Resource Centre at Quayside in Dundalk. The event which is organised by Deputy Peter Fitzpatrick will be a chip-timed event. The 5k route will begin at Marches Shopping Centre, Dundalk and will take in the avenue road/ inner relief road, before returning to the shopping centre. All money raised will go directly to purchasing new computers for the people who use both services.

Deputy Peter Fitzpatrick said, “Following on from last year’s successful event I am delighted to once again organise this fun family event which will raise money to enhance two local services for people with disabilities. No matter what your fitness level, I would encourage everyone to talk part, whether they want to walk, jog or run it!”

Deirdre Quinn, Community Service Manager, RehabCare in Dundalk said, “The Fitzer’s 5k was a great event last year and the money raised went towards purchasing iPads which the service users have got great use out of. This year’s event promises to be every bit as fun and we are really encouraging people to sign up. This year the money will go towards purchasing computers to enhance the IT skills of the people who use our service, all of whom have a disability. These technologies will be a great tool in supporting them to develop their skills.”

In partnership with the Health Service Executive, RehabCare provides a wide range of high-quality services in County Louth with almost 100 people accessing its two resource centres located in the Quayside and Carroll Village in Dundalk.  The Maria Goretti Children’s Respite currently provides respite to 50 families.
