12/05/2014 Work Shadow Day in RC Portlaoise

Service user’s from the RehabCare Resource Centre in Portlaoise joined the Irish Association of Supported Employment’s recent Job Shadow Day initiative and became involved in shadowing workers from different organisations to get a taste of working in the professional workplace.

Paula Flanagan joined Bluebird Care and thoroughly enjoyed this experience. She joined the staff in doing clerical skills as well as joining an interviewing panel for the day. Rebecca Vousden and Fionnula O’Connor from Bluebird Care made Paula’s day the very memorable and rewarding.

It was really rewarding and enjoyable. Sadie Maher and Aoife Sweeney were really good to me and showed me loads of things that they do in their jobs.”

Deirdre Bailey, Community Services Manager, RehabCare in Portlaoise said, “The Job Shadow Day initiative is a very rewarding and unique opportunity that benefits a range of individuals in the community from the people who get the opportunity to see how what a typical working day is in a business to the companies who generously open their doors and take part. It gives people with disabilities an insight into a real working day gives the people who use our services in RehabCare Portlaoise the confidence to apply for employment or work experience in their desired area of choice. I’d like to thank all the people who made this initiative happen, the staff at Bluebird Care and Dept of Agriculture, Food and Marine, Pat Preston, Trisha Henley and Nicola Keenan.”
