Mandy Simpson - Kilkenny

Some of the things I get to do in the resource centre are typing skills, town access, and literacy skills.

One of the goals I had made was to get paid employment and I now work in Centra.

Since I started at RehabCare I have improved in my reading and writing, started going out in the community more, got a job and improved my money management.

My name is Mandy Simpson. I am attending RehabCare a number of years. I live in Bennettsbridge, Co Kilkenny. I live with my parents and my brother Alan. Bennettsbridge is a quiet village with two pubs, one shop, a post office, a hairdressers, soccer and hurling pitches.

Everyday when I come into RehabCare I look at my timetable. Some of the things I can do at the resource centre are typing skills, town access, and literacy skills. I also have a person-centered plan (PCP) every year and my support plan is reviewed every year. I take part in some of the programmes in the centre such as cooking, health and safety, budgeting and independent living.

One of the goals I had made was to get paid employment and I have achieved this. I work in Centra which is a mini supermarket. It is in Bennettsbridge and I work for two hours on Wednesdays and for an hour on Thursdays. Some of my duties include making a list to see what we need such as chocolate, crisps and minerals. We sell soup, bread and many other foods. We have a lot of food in the hot deli from Monday until Friday and we do sandwiches every day. We also do the lotto. I have to wear a navy or blue t-shirt and a name badge.

My hobbies are going to the cinema with my family and friends and socialising, going on holidays, and going on trips. I listen to Na Fianna and Devil the Bit. I like walking and cooking. I love attending RehabCare and I go there every weekday. Since I started at RehabCare, I have improved in my reading and writing, started going out in the community more and have got a job. I have also improved my money management.
