Meet Veronica McConnell

Veronica McConnell
Veronica McConnell - Leitrim

I love my home. My bedroom is at the back of the house and I really like it because it’s lovely and quiet.

I have a part-time job in a local guesthouse. The work is usually at weekends or during the summer when it’s busy.

We go to concerts and my favourite people to see are Foster and Allen or Big Tom.

Housework
Housework

I have been living in a house provided by Newgrove Housing Association for over 12 years. I share the house with three other women. It is in an ordinary estate within walking distance of Ballinamore town in Leitrim. I love my home! My bedroom is at the back of the house and I really like it because it’s lovely and quiet. I have orange walls, a comfy bed, a big wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a dressing table.  I keep my room clean and tidy.

I get on well with the other girls in the house and we often do things together like going on trips or walks. We also go to concerts and my favourite people to see are Foster and Allen or Big Tom. I love swimming and get to go most weeks. We go on holidays away every year.. I like watching television too and my favourite programmes are the news and Nationwide. I love living here and it’s great to have the support of the staff. One person stays every night and they help us with anything we need like budgeting our money. I do all my budgeting and banking in the town of Ballinamore. It’s a lovely town to live in and has everything I need.

I share the housework with the other girls. We all have our own jobs – mine are to do the hovering and to clean the kitchen and the fridge. One of the other girls and I do the weekly shopping every Friday. I like to cook, especially potatoes, but I need help from the staff to do it.

I go to the RehabCare resource centre in town five days a week and I also have a part-time job in a local guesthouse. The work is usually at weekends or during the summer when it’s busy. I make the beds, clean the rooms, do some hovering and help prepare the food. I love having a job.”
